Inside the Broker
The interactive course. Build an MQTT broker and a Sparkplug B edge node, then watch every packet, break things on purpose, and see exactly what a host application sees. Every lesson comes with your own private study broker, right in the page: nothing to install.
Live right now
This is the course's dashboard on a real study broker, live and read-only. Its edge node reads the PLC Simulator's water tank over Modbus TCP and publishes the values as Sparkplug B; a host application watches it. It opens on Diagnostics, the traffic colored by kind; click Sparkplug for the tank's metrics and Trace for every packet. In the course you get one of these for yourself, with the controls.
What you'll do
- Watch MQTT 3.1.1 on the wire: connections, keepalives, QoS flows, retained messages and wills, decoded and colored by kind.
- Follow Sparkplug B the way a host does: births, deaths, bdSeq, sequence numbers, rebirth requests.
- Break it on purpose: drop births, lose deaths, run two nodes with one name, lose one message in ten (the Chapter 19 labs).
- Put a real plant behind your edge node: the PLC Simulator's water tank, read over Modbus.
The course follows the book Inside the Broker by Charles Vance.
